This is a custom-made stepped positioning pin that is formed in one step through multi-station cold heading process. It is made of high-quality low-carbon steel or medium-carbon steel wire, and is shaped by continuous mold extrusion. The surface is treated with environmentally friendly blue-white galvanizing. The product structure consists of a flat large round head formed by cold heading and a stepped smooth shaft body: The head is equipped with a precisely stamped cross-slot drive interface, which is convenient for screwdriver operation; The shaft body presents a double or triple stepped structure with a larger front and smaller rear, forming multiple positioning reference planes; The end is a precisely cylindrical guiding head, which is convenient for aligning with the hole position. The cold heading process enables the metal fiber flow to be continuously distributed along the contour, which has higher mechanical strength and surface density compared to cutting processing. It is an economical and preferred solution for mass production of high-precision positioning pins, and is widely used in rapid positioning and snap connection of components in fields such as home appliance assembly, automotive interiors, electronic appliances, medical devices, etc.

Cross-slot drive interface
The head is equipped with a standard cross-slot or diamond-shaped slot. The slot type is formed by a stamping mold in one step, with an appropriate depth. It fits tightly with the screwdriver and is not likely to slip during tightening, making it convenient for later disassembly and maintenance.
Multi-level stepped positioning structure
The shaft body is designed as two or three stepped sections. The large-diameter section is closely fitted with the mainboard hole for precise positioning. The middle-diameter section is in transitional cooperation with the auxiliary board, and the small-diameter section serves as the introduction guide. The coaxiality of each section is ≤ 0.05 millimeters.
Precise guiding end
The length of the end cylindrical section is 3 to 8 millimeters. The diameter of the end is 0.5 to 1 millimeter smaller than the smallest step. The end face is chamfered or has a spherical head treatment. It is smooth for introduction without damaging the hole wall, and can also be used as a short support for the rotating shaft.
Galvanized anti-corrosion protection
The surface is treated with blue-white galvanization. The coating thickness is 8 to 12 micrometers. The salt spray test lasts for more than 48 hours. The white passivation film is beautiful and easy to visually inspect the assembly status, and complies with RoHS environmental protection requirements.
Full-length non-threaded design
Different from the threaded locking of bolts, this pin relies on stepped interference fit or snap connection to achieve fixation. There is no risk of thread slippage without threads. In vibration environments, it is more reliable to use with lock springs or tensioning structures.

Cold heading process offers high cost-effectiveness
The multi-station cold heading machine can produce 3 to 5 pieces per second, with a material utilization rate exceeding 85%. Compared to CNC turning processing, the cost is reduced by more than 60%, and the dimensional consistency is better. It is particularly suitable for large-scale orders of over 100,000 pieces.
Complete metal flowline reinforcement
During the cold heading process, the metal fibers are not cut and are continuously distributed along the stepped contour. The shear strength at the junction of the head and the shaft is 30% to 50% higher than that of the turned parts, making it less prone to fracture when subjected to impact loads.
Surface dense and wear-resistant
The cold heading surface is densified by mold extrusion, with a hardness slightly higher than the base material. The roughness Ra can reach below 1.6 micrometers. As a positioning pin in contact with the mating hole, it has excellent wear resistance and maintains stable mating accuracy after repeated insertion and extraction.
Large head bearing area
The large-diameter flat round head provides sufficient axial positioning and bearing area to prevent the pin from penetrating the thin plate. The transition arc between the head and the shaft is full, dispersing stress to avoid stress concentration and cracking.
Quick assembly with good guiding performance
The small-diameter end guide head is introduced into the hole first, automatically correcting the position deviation. The subsequent steps pass through the steps successively to achieve progressive positioning. The assembly cycle only takes 2 to 3 seconds, suitable for automated production lines.
