Egypt has begun to build a 1.1GW solar energy project equipped with 200MWh battery energy storage

Recently, Scatec ASA has begun to build its 1.1 GW Obelisk solar and 100 MW/200 MWh battery storage projects in Egypt. The electricity generated by this project will be sold under a 25-year power purchase agreement (PPA) signed with the Egyptian Power Transmission Company (EETC), and a sovereign guarantee will be provided. This project will be constructed in two phases. The first phase of the 561-megawatt solar + 100-megawatt / 200-megawatt-hour battery energy storage project is planned to be put into commercial operation (COD) in the first half of 2026. The second phase of the 564-megawatt solar project is scheduled to be put into commercial operation in the second half of 2026.
