The agency predicts that by 2030, solar power generation in the Middle East will reach 100GW

According to the report on June 9, Norwegian based Energy consulting firm Rystad Energy said that benefiting from green hydrogen projects to promote, the Middle East solar power generation will continue to rise, is expected to reach 100GW by 2030, an annual growth rate of 30%.

The company said that total solar power generation in the Middle East exceeded 16GW at the end of 2023 and will reach nearly 23GW by the end of 2024.

At present, the Middle East still relies heavily on fossil fuels for power generation, with fossil fuels accounting for 93% of total power generation at the end of 2023, renewables accounting for 3%, and nuclear and hydropower each accounting for 2%. The agency predicts that about 30 percent of the region's installed capacity will come from renewable energy by 2030, with the proportion expected to rise to 75 percent by 2050. Due to the relative scarcity of hydropower and the low price of natural gas, the Middle East will continue to use natural gas for power generation as a primary energy source and eventually as a long-term transition fuel. The share of natural gas in the power generation mix is expected to fall from 74% at the end of 2023 to 46% in 2040 and 22% in 2050.
