Can screws be reused?

Re-use of screws is not recommended for the following reasons:

Current state of the art and product safety requirements

Process capability during assembly

Current state of the art and product safety requirements

In the connection process, reference standards involving screw parts under theoretical conditions are specially formulated. General standard requirements are not enforceable. Standards are non-binding recommendations, and they become more binding in application precisely because of compliance with the specification. When making an order, the basic safety requirements can be specified according to technical standards. In this way, the existing technology plays an important role in the sales link, and also plays a corresponding role in special application conditions.

Certain application criteria conform to the presumption under certain specifications (e.g. CE marking). In the absence of corresponding standards or where no specifications can be found, operations must be carried out in accordance with accepted technical specifications.

When it comes to the re-use of screw parts, it is the responsibility of the user or maintenance personnel to evaluate the suitability of the parts. Replacement parts are usually specified in the manufacturer's instructions. Observation and replacement of safety-connected parts, as defined in the "Technical Notes", are also recognized as necessary measures. This argument stems from years of practical experience and is also necessary to guarantee a reliable connection.

In addition, there is a need to focus on the responsibility once the product is put on the market. In this way, basic health and safety needs must be met, while aspects such as the assessment of the level of knowledge *) and the level of available technology, as well as the tracking of specific potential hazards of products, must also be considered.

*) Comprehensive knowledge of the implementation or upcoming implementation, and the availability of the product (screw assembly parts) when it is placed on the market.

Summary: From the point of view of the relevant normative operation requirements, to the acceptance and compliance with the binding terms, the reuse of original connecting parts should be avoided as much as possible.
