South Africa has officially launched a hybrid solar power plant

According to the South African Business Technology website reported on April 19, Norwegian renewable energy company Scatec officially launched its 540 MW hybrid solar and battery facility in Northern Cape province on April 18.

The project consists of three sub-projects with an installed solar PV capacity of 540 MW, battery capacity of 225 MW and energy storage capacity of 1.14 GW. The project covers an area of 879 hectares (more than 1,500 football fields) and consists of 1 million solar panels and 456 units, each the size of a shipping container, making it one of the largest hybrid solar and battery facilities in the world.
