Chinese enterprises undertook grid-connected photovoltaic power plant projects in Zambia

The Zambian Itingpi solar Power project undertaken by Power Construction Corporation of China (PowerChina) recently held a grid-connected power generation ceremony. Zambian President Hichilema cut the ribbon for the unveiling of the project.

Hichilema said that electricity is the foundation of Zambia's mining and agricultural development, and is an important guarantee for Zambia to realize the transformation from resource exports to the production of high value-added products. In recent years, due to the impact of climate change, Zambia's traditional hydropower generation is facing great challenges. The successful grid connection of this project is of great significance for Zambia to cope with climate change, promote economic development and achieve energy diversification.

Liu Guoyu, economic and commercial Counselor of the Chinese Embassy in Zambia, said that energy cooperation is an important area for China and Zambia to deepen high-quality cooperation in jointly building the "Belt and Road", and the grid connection of the Yitingpi solar project is of great practical significance for deepening the renewable energy cooperation between the two countries, promoting energy transformation and ensuring energy security.

The Itingpi Solar project, located in Kitwe District, Copperbelt Province, Zambia, is the second photovoltaic project of cooperation between Power China Construction and Zambia Copperbelt Energy Company, and is also the largest tracer photovoltaic power plant project that has been completed in Zambia. The project is expected to generate more than 100 million KWH of electricity annually.
